New year, New You, Bring on 2022!

Well, it’s January, another year has passed and after all the build up to the festivities, that we didn’t have in 2020 - the fun, the overindulging of chocolate and alcohol, the copious amounts of partying, family and friends gatherings, Santa preparations and not forgetting all the toy testing that is mandatory each year, we are all feeling a little burnt out and a tad deflated.

January is the perfect time to switch things up and what better way to put the last year behind us and usher in the new year than with a new ‘do. Whether you’re looking for simple ways to transform your hairstyle or you fancy making a bigger change, switching up your look for the upcoming year is a great place to start.

We want to share some of the styles, colours, and cuts to look out for. From chic, textured bob style cuts to big bouncy blow outs we have the inspiration you need for your new year look and get you off to 2022 with a bang!o edit it.

We’re going back to the 90’s

Now I don’t know if you’ve noticed but while I was browsing round the shops or looking online at clothes for my 14-year-old daughter, it was like I’d been taken back in time. Some of the styles out there look like they’ve been taken off the shelves in the 90’s, preserved in a factory for 3 decades, brought out, dusted off ready to go back on the rails. I’ve found myself turning into my mother coining the phrase “I used to wear that when I was young” I mean… WOW!

New year, New You, Bring on 2022! 90s style

The 90’s for me was where I lived my best life, its where I found myself as a teen, grew as a person and where I started my career in the Hair industry, I will always be a true child of the 90’s and some of my fave hairstyles have been from this iconic decade.

Over the years we’ve been using lots of different elements of the 90’s hair styles like “The Rachel” “The Lulu” “The Christna” adapting theses styles to fit the trends as they change.

90's inspired layers, fluffy hair and textured fringes have made a comeback, with the trend starting late last year and is set to stay for the new year. As a contrast to the one length, blunt ends 90's fluffy layered hair is a glam throwback. Make sure to ask your stylist for the fluffy layers and not heavy ones as we use different cutting techniques to achieve this type of look.

Textured jaw length, blunt bobs and contrasting blunt choppy bobs with centre partings are also the in styles to have this new year. Spice up your classic bob without having to sacrifice the shape and committing to lots of layers, texture is the best way to enhance and soften up any bob, even if you’re a sleek straight hair wearer texture can add so much more.

Hair curlers for the bouncy blowout

Another hair trend taking the new year by storm is “The Bouncy Blow Out”. Think the bigger the hair the better. Not always an easy look to achieve but with a few hints and tips we can help you get that bouncy look perfected. Once hair is washed and conditioned you need to dry your hair off using a brush, and preferably with your head upside down to give you the root lift needed, using a product like “Milkshakes – Volume Solution Styling Spray” will help. While the hair is still warm curl your hair with a Curling Tong or Wand, we recommend our “Alfa Italia – Tropea interchangeable tong set” and pin the curls in place or use heated rollers to get the curl, let hair cool then remove the pins, give it a really good shake out and tease with fingers and add a mist of hairspray to get that extra hold for gorgeous salon worthy hair.

New year, New You, Bring on 2022!

From lockdown we were all embracing our natural style and colour this has now translated into a trend for 2022. Think subtle highlights and glossy nourished hair, minimal effort, maximum impact, one of the trends to follow on from more natural lengths and cuts is what some are calling expensive blonde or brunette. The expensive element is the technique where lighter sections are woven into the hair to create a softness and contrast that is more delicate and 'expensive' looking instead of going for a full head of highlights.

Warmer tones will also be celebrated in the New Year. Coppers and Chocolates can be added to the hair to lift the complexion and give hair a new dimension and depth.

Us Hairdressers are super excited for all that is to come for the new year with all the new looks, I know the team and I are looking forward to it.

Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year, love the team at HQ Hair x
